A.  Read the sentences under the photo. Notice that the words who and is are deleted in the shorter answer. Both answers are correct and have the same meaning.

Question: Is that Ann?
Longer Answer: Yes, she’s the woman who is waving at us.
Shorter Answer: Yes, she’s the woman waving at us.

B.  Delete two words in the longer answer to make a shorter answer. The first one is done for you.

1. Who is Ben?
Longer answer: He’s the boy who is riding his bike.
Shorter answer: He’s the boy riding his bike.

2. Who is Sofia?
Longer answer: She’s the woman who is sitting next to Sam.
Shorter answer: ____________________________________________

3. Was the office crowded?
Longer answer: Yes, it was full of people who were filling out applications.
Shorter answer: ____________________________________________

4. Which people are the cooks?
Longer answer: They’re the ones who are wearing white jackets.
Shorter answer: ____________________________________________

5. Who is Alex?
Longer answer: He’s the tall guy who is standing near the window.
Shorter answer: ____________________________________________

6. Is that your tour group?
Longer answer: Yes, they’re the people who are wearing red T-shirts.
Shorter answer: ____________________________________________

7. What’s that noise?
Longer answer: It’s a plane that is flying low overhead.
Shorter answer: ____________________________________________

C. Read the questions and the shorter answers aloud with a partner.
