A. Read the two conversations below.
1. Formal English:
Speaker A: I’m going to the store now.
Speaker B: Are you going to buy more snacks for the party?
Speaker A: Yes. If I don’t, we’re not going to have enough food.
2. Informal English:
Speaker A: I’m goin’ to the store now.
Speaker B: Are you gonna buy more snacks for the party?
Speaker A: Yeah. If I don’t, we’re not gonna have enough food.
You can say goin’ instead of going when you are talking about physically moving from one place to another. (I’m goin’ to the store.) You can say gonna instead of going to when you are talking about a plan (Are you gonna buy more snacks?) or a prediction. (We’re not gonna have enough food.)
B. Complete the sentences with the words below.

4. Speaker A: I’m going to the airport now.

Speaker A: Yes. The security lines are going to be _____________________________.
5. Speaker A: I’m going to the appliance store now.
Speaker B: Are you going to buy a new TV?
Speaker A: Yes. Next week it’s going to be more _____________________________.
6. Speaker A: I’m going to the bakery now.
Speaker B: Are you going to buy Marco a birthday cake?
Speaker A: Yes. If he doesn’t have a cake, he’s going to be ____________________________.
C. Read the sentences above aloud with a partner. Speaker A can say goin’ instead of going, and Speaker B can say gonna instead of going to (and yeah instead of yes).
